Itinerary of sorts

Here is our itinerary for the summer. Looks like we will be visiting Fiji first. I'm not sure how much of this we will do (see the disclaimer at the bottom) but it all sounds wonderful.

Cairns, Australia

  • Learn of the region’s indigenous people by participating alongside them in cultural, ceremonial, and recreational activities.
  • Submerge and converge at the Great Barrier Reef in company with your delegation’s own marine biologist to assist your exploration.
  • Appreciate nature, nose to nose, with koalas, kangaroos, and wallabies.
  • Spot crocodiles in the wild on an exclusive river cruise with Aboriginal students as guides.

Sydney, Australia

  • Enjoy a backstage pass in the acoustic marvel, the Sydney Opera House.
  • Ride the world’s steepest train up the Blue Mountains through sandstone cliffs and lush green vegetation.
  • Cruise the Sydney Harbour with your “mates,” taking in the enormous sights from an off-shore vantage point while dining adrift.
  • Whether in class or at recess, spend some wonderful time getting to know local students.
  • Take a swing at cricket during a day at the Sydney Cricket Grounds, learning the history and significance of the site of this popular Aussie pastime. Ace your surfing lesson and test your skills at Bondi Beach.
  • Stand atop the Olympics award podium where only winners were allowed at the 2000 Summer Olympics.

Rotorua, New Zealand

  • Be welcomed at the Rotorua Council Chambers by a council member. Receive the honor of being an overnight guest in a Marae, the traditional Maori tribal center, and be treated to ceremonial song, dance, and lasting friendships.
  • Ascend up Mount Ngongataha by smooth gondola. Take in the gorgeous, and sacred, sites. Descend by speeding luge (go-cart)!

Auckland, New Zealand

  • Live a slice of resident life with a New Zealand family during a three-night home stay.
  • See the “City of Sails.”

Fiji

  • Greet your Fiji hosts with “Bula!” and assume traditional Fijian life from that point forward!
  • Attend class with Fijian school students and compare notes on your school systems.
  • Arrive at the Kula Bird Eco-Park and immerse yourself in some of Fiji’s natural wildlife.
  • Travel by yacht to Tivua Island, accompanied by Fijian students. Spend the entire day snorkeling, playing on the beach, relaxing, and forming friendships and memories you’ll never top!
  • Ride the river to the Navua village, where you’ll join in native song, dance, crafting, and other traditions. Cool off afterwards with a swim at a tropical lagoon, with beautiful waterfalls as your backdrop.

Note: Highlights featured represent past programs. Your program may differ slightly in some areas due to scheduling conflicts, unforeseen changes, and the arrival of new opportunities. Your program’s Schedule of Activities will be provided as confirmed, closer to actual travel.
