Fiji life

Wow, what a few days we have had. Yesterday, July 20, 2009 was THE BEST People to People day I have had in my three years as a leader. We went up a river to a traditional Fijian village. First we were to elect a chief and spokesman. The chief was Julius (NY) and the spokesman was Nathan (WA). We traveled in long boats and when we got there, were required to put on sarongs (sulu's for the guys) and take our sunglasses off of our head. Then we were greeted by a village warrior and taken to their village. There we had a traditional Kava ceremony where our chief and our spokesman were given the Kava first and then the chief of the village was given the kava, then all the men of our group, then all the men of the village and last the women of our group. After that, we went to the school and toured the village. We came back for lunch and dancing with the villagers.

After the visit, we went up the river to a waterfall that was AWESOME, "Wanamaviu" in Fijian.

The students are having a fabulous time. I'll try to post some pictures.
